Our Story
Stephen and Charity Jones have worked for 16 years in church planting, counselling*, and leadership development. For the past nine years, Stephen has served as a pastor of a local church in a South Asian neighborhood in London, England. Reaching the unreached with the gospel has always been a core part of their ministry, and their church involvement has given them a front row seat to the needs of immigrant churches and avenues to bless their sister churches in South Asia.
In 2018, Charity helped start a UK counselling charity to help serve their neighbors with counselling who have been excluded from counselling due to cultural stigma or financial restraints. Since its inception, Stephen and Charity (with help from many others) have helped to provide over 4,300 counselling sessions, trained seven counselling interns toward certification and given away $185,000 in counselling scholarships, training certifications for counsellors and partnering organizations (without outside funding). Stephen and Charity have 11 counsellors who can provide counselling in 13 languages.
As Western funding for church planting among the unreached decreases, there is a need to find innovative, sustainable and scalable funding streams to empower the growing global church. As Stephen and Charity saw the growing demand for counselling and counselling training, they began to dream about creating an organization that could provide a platform to serve vulnerable clients, train cross-cultural counsellors, and deploy excess funds for global church planting.
In 2021, Counselling Global was started as a US, tax-deductible nonprofit to help support Stephen and Charity Jones' growing work. They dream of empowering global counsellors to start counselling centers in strategic cities worldwide, serve the most vulnerable, provide counselling training, and utilize excess funds for church planting.
While there may come a time when this dream is sustainable without outside funding, our ambitious plans to serve the poor means Counselling Global only exists because of the generosity of our donors. This funding provides transparent accountability to the mission, resources for the most vulnerable clients and a sustainable pathway for global expansion. The prayers and generosity of donors, in combination with the wise oversight of the board and advisors, will help to ensure the ministry stays on track to scale public good in the name of Christ.
Stephen and Charity leave with Serge's blessing. They look forward to continuing their partnership with Serge in London in church planting and counselling.
